Cyd Ho Sau-lan is a founding member and vice-chairwoman of the Labour Party (工黨) in Hong Kong. She previously served as a member of the Legislative Council for the New Territories East constituency (1998–2000) and later for the Hong Kong Island constituency (2000-2004; 2008–2016).[1] Ho was also the chairman of bills committees, such as the 2004 Education (Revised) Bill and the 2004 Examination Authority Bill.[2] In Dec. 2011, alongside Lee Cheuk-yan, Cheung Kwok-che, and others, she co-founded the Labour Party as the vice-chairwoman. [3]

In 2012, Ho spearheaded efforts to pass legislation aimed at prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation,[4] and openly supported same-sex marriage and other LGBT rights, including the promotion of legislation on gender identity recognition.[5]

During the 2019 Anti-Extradition Bill protests, Ho actively participated in various demonstrations and was charged multiple times for organizing or participating in unlawful assemblies.[6][7] She was also charged with participating in and inciting participation in an unauthorized assembly on Jun. 4, 2020, for the 34th anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre Vigil.[8]

Ho served as one of the five trustees for the 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund (612人道支援基金), which provided financial support for legal assistance to protesters who were prosecuted for their participation in the 2019 protests. She was arrested while in jail, along with other trustees, including Cardinal Zen, on charges of colluding with foreign forces on May 11, 2022.[9] On Nov. 25, 2022, the trustees were convicted for failing to properly register the Fund under the Societies Ordinance and fined HK$4000. They filed an appeal to the High Court two weeks later.[10]

Ho finished her 21-month sentence and was released on Jun. 11, 2022.[11]
